Pilates

Pilates is a system of exercise that integrates mind and body with breath to help you achieve your optimum health. The pilates exercise program aligns the body, builds long lean muscles, and develops core abdominal strength. Each exercise targets deep abdominal muscles to develop core stability, while toning, strengthening and balancing your body, mind, and spirit. Like yoga, Pilates is a holistic preventive-oriented method of movement that supports you in reaffirming your connection to a healthy, fit body, calm mind, and joyful spirit. And, like yoga, Pilates allows you to progress at your own pace--and to have fun! Class is open to all ability levels.

Pilates with Balls, Bands, and 'Bells: Pilates on the ball is a fun way to build strong, flexible bodies and healthy minds. Dumbbells add variety and intensity should you wish to challenge yourself. Resistance exercise bands can provide the means to safely improve muscular strength and endurance, range of motion, and flexibility. Pilates exercise possibilities with resistance exercise bands and exercise balls are unlimited. This class is gentle enough to alleviate chronic pain and help heal injuries; yet, may also be intense enough to enhance performance for athletes.

Pilates Principles

Concentration: engaging your mind on what your body is doing
Control: fostering mind-body coordination
Centering: with complete focus, working toward a stronger core
Breathing: breathing into the rib-cage
Postural Alignment: being aware of the position of your body parts as
they move in space
Flow: moving slowly and gracefully
Precision: moving with exact, economic accurate body strokes

Stamina: introducing the element of intensity to work toward
building endurance
Relaxation: learning to release the body, mind, and spirit
with full breath and focus
